There was no trial. No witnesses were questioned. No confession was needed. A brownie was missing. Only one person could be responsible for such a crime.
It was little C. It had to be Little C! His past misdeeds incriminated him. If you don’t know what I’m talking about, you can read about his chocolate-stealing crimes in the archives.
A judgment was made and punishment was about to be rendered when someone else confessed to the crime!
Sometimes we think we know our kids so well that we jump to conclusions about their motives and actions. After all, this seemed to be a watertight case! Little C takes food. The other boys don’t. Why even bother investigating?
But “Love keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.” (1 Corinthians 13: 5-7)
How easy it is to keep a record of wrongs, and to expect our children to keep on sinning. We are tempted to always believe the worst of them, when we should believe the best.
Shouldn’t I expect that they will repent and learn to obey? Shouldn’t I always trust, and always hope? That’s what love does.
You have to wonder if the other bubba took it knowing that Cal would get in trouble and then couldn’t let him take the fall in the end. Now, that’s a bubba with a conscience! My boys stand up for each other all the time and it makes my heart swell with love and pride for them!
God bless,
Sallie
