Celebrating the Season Blog Carnival

I’ve never hosted a blog carnival before, but I wanted to give it a try. I’d like to focus this month on some of the ways we celebrate the Christmas season. This week’s Celebrating the Season is dedicated to one of my favorite topics: Christmas books and music.

Are you reading any special books for Advent? I’d love to know if you have a great Christmas CD to recommend! Do you have special books or music that you get out every year at this time? Please share it!

I have two new Christmas CDs this season which I am loving! Your King Has Come is put out by a lot of the artists from Indelible Grace. Most of the songs are traditional, with a couple of new Christmas carols in the mix. You can listen to samples or purchase the CD here. I’m also enjoying Nathan Clark George’s Christmas CD A Midwinter’s Eve. Sample tracks and purchasing information are here.

For my personal devotions this month I’m reading Come, Thou Long Expected Jesus. This slim volume, edited by Nancy Guthrie, is full of meat. This book of Advent reflections draws from the works and sermons of classic theologians such as Luther, Spurgeon, and Augustine, and from leading contemporary teachers such as John Piper, J. Ligon Duncan, and R. C. Sproul.

If you’ve never done a blog carnival before, it’s easy! Just write a post on your blog about the topic Celebrating the Season, then link in back here to this post. Put your link in the Mister Linky widget box and leave me a comment so that we can all visit your blog and find out what you are doing this month!

Molly, thanks for doing this blog carnival. It challenged me to actually blog about what we are doing this CHRISTmas season. I use the blog to keep my long distance family up to date on our homeschooling and daily lives. I don’t write it with others in mind but I guess I should. 🙂

  2. Molly, I started a Christmas blog with all the books we are reading and crafts we are making and fun times we are having. I haven’t posted any music yet, but I will. I just wanted to be a part of the carnival. Thank you!

  3. Molly, I got my music picks up on the blog!

  4. We’ve been celebrating advent with our Advent wreath and Jesse Tree plus some other things we do with our children. We had a Happy Birthday Jesus Christmas Party where we celebrated with our neighbors and friends with crafts, built ginger-bread homes and re-enacted the nativity on the front lawn. It was a fun time. The children brought presents to give to a needy family at our church. Only two more weeks left in December-how to make it last longer?
