I gave my talk An Honest Look at Anger this week at my local Homeschool Association meeting. I have given this talk live several times already, and it has never bothered me before.
But sharing the message with friends from church and ladies I see every week at art class and golf lessons was a different experience.
All week I have felt exposed. Now they know I am a sinner! Are they judging me? Could anyone relate? Were they shocked to hear the truth about me?
They shouldn’t have been. “For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,” Romans 3:23.
Each of us knows the depravity that lies within our own hearts. If we are believers, we know the One Who died to pay the price for all that sin.
It’s hard to confess our sins to one another. But that is exactly what the Bible tells us to do. Strangely, in God’s economy, He uses our confession of sin as a part of the process of transforming us. When we try to hide, we deceive only ourselves.
“But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all sin. If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.” 1 John 1: 7-9
Hi, Molly!
I think so many more of us struggle with anger than we let on. And you’re right in that was ARE to confess our sins to each other. Anger is a huge struggle for me. I was just crying over the phone with a dear friend about it last night, how it hurts my children and I am ashamed of it!
I know the evil one would not like us to live in the light and have things out in the open. After all, if no one knew of our sin, no one could be praying for us to be healed from it, to overcome it. I’m praying that the Lord will give you victory in this area, as I know how difficult it can be. I haven’t had time to listen to your podcast yet, but I’ll be doing so soon.
Many blessing to you, dear sister in Christ!
