In a house full of boys, there is always a race to get the last pork chop, last pancake, or last scoop of mac and cheese. Never mind that I always make plenty, and we frequently have left overs….the boys seem to live in mortal fear that someone else will get more food than they do.
Tonight at dinner our ten-year-old started loading lettuce and tomato onto a second hamburger before he had even finished eating his first one. When my husband asked him why he was busy constructing a second burger when he still had half a burger on his plate, he answered, “Always plan ahead. That’s what Ben Franklin always said….’Look ahead or you will fall behind.'”
Apparently he was listening when we read about Ben Franklin earlier this week. But somehow, I don’t think that’s what Ben meant by his famous saying!
