I started participating in this Homemaker’s Haven blog carnival at High and Noble Calling last week, but I’m just finding time to post about it today.
Last week’s challenge was doing something to spruce up the entryway to your house. My entryway had lots of cobwebs around it, dirt all over the porch and some weeds growing from a side bed onto the sidewalk. I hate cleaning off the porch, but did it anyway! It didn’t take 10 minutes…to think, I’ve been putting it off!
I even bought some mums on sale to put on either side of the steps. I love that they coordinate with my door, and for just $5 apiece I feel like I got a steal on these giant containers! I’ll probably plant them soon, but for now they look so nice by my front door!
I guess it still looks a bit dusty in the picture, but it’s much improved!
Today’s challenge is kitchen cleaning, specifically straightening up the freezer and fridge. I should have taken a before photo of the kitchen but it was too humiliating! We had a fellowship lunch at church yesterday, and I was up past midnight Saturday night cooking and baking. I had been gone all weekend, so I didn’t get started until 10 o’clock that night. Yesterday my kitchen looked like it had been through a tornado, but I tried to discipline myself to have a Sabbath rest! So today, I tackled wiping down the counters, washing dishes, straightening up mail and little toys found on the counters, etc. I even scoured the sink (Fly Lady would be so pleased!)
I decided to accept the Homemaking Haven challenge and clean out the fridge/freezer today. I would not have had time to do this (much less blog about it!) if we weren’t on fall break…so all bets are off about next week’s challenge.
Here’s my before photo…
It was really bad.
And while perfectionism won’t allow me to post close-up photos of the end result, it is WAY better than before. Can you tell a difference? I can.
I think since I worked so hard to clean out the fridge, I should be able to eat this bit of leftover cheesecake, right? It’s taking up space!
Like my fridge thermometer? To help prevent food-borne illness your fridge temp should always remain at 40F or below. Go to Fight Bac for more information about fighting food-borne illness.
