My good friend Nina of Portugal Bound left a comment on my last post, saying “I don’t know how you do it all!”
I’m not sure if that was serious, or tongue-in-cheek, but I couldn’t just let it stand! Not after my post about Superheroes of the Faith!
Sure, it might sound like I’ve got my act together. After all, I’m planting a garden with my children (making beautiful memories). My homeschool will be super-organized next year. And I found time to put together not one, but TWO, new blogs this week!
What’s missing from this picture?? All the things I didn’t do when I was doing those other things! I don’t want anyone to think that I am pretending to be Supermom again. I’ll bet it wouldn’t take me 5 minutes to list several things, just from today, which prove I’m not.
1) I made the kids pancakes and strawberries for breakfast this morning….but they didn’t get fed until almost 10 a.m.
2) My books for school are super-organized, and our school room looks good. But there are things piled up all over my dining room table.
3) Our bird garden is taking shape, but the house has definitely been neglected. If I’m working outside, I can’t be working inside!
4) I made a cake for our church potluck, but ran out of flour. I resourcefully substituted muffin mix for the extra flour….it’s basically the same thing, right? Wrong.
5) I went to Walmart to get more flour, only to get back home and find out we also needed powdered sugar for the frosting. My homemade powdered sugar recipe (granulated sugar plus cornstarch in a blender) didn’t make for tasty frosting, either.
There, that wasn’t hard at all! Supermom tries to look like she does it all, and she does it all perfectly. I could have made my cake again, or taken something different to the potluck. But this ordinary mom’s cake is going to have to do. I’d rather watch a movie with my kids tonight than worry about serving a better cake tomorrow.
