K will be spending the night in the hospital and it looks like they will attempt to drain his abscess Tuesday. However, there is still some question about that at the moment. We are still waiting all the details, but what we have been initially told is it wasn’t as fully developed as they thought it might be and draining it now might not get everything out they had hoped to. We will get more details later on this. If they go ahead with this Knox would probably be in the hospital at least till Wednesday.
For those who want all the details here are some highlights (or lowlights) for the day:
– It took 5 tries to get K’s IV in. K was not happy with this turn of events.
– As it was difficult to get his IV in it looked for a while like they were going to switch him to an oral antibiotic. This meant that it looked for a while as if they could possibly send him home depending on how the CT scan came out.
– The CT scan was the quickest and most problem free item of the day
– K is doing well with all this (except when they keep sticking him). Even the not eating part. They brought in a hot dog and fries. Put it in front of him and then a minute later told him not to eat it yet. This reminded me of when I was growing up we used to do a similar thing to my dog Whiskers. We would put a dog biscuit on his nose, back away and make him wait till we said “okay” before he could eat it. I left K after 4 1/2 hours today and “the biscuit was still on his nose”. Poor K!
Please pray for the procedure to drain the abscess tomorrow. We have some questions about it that we would like answered to feel more comfortable with it. Pray that the antibiotics would help break K’s fever. They have expressed a desire to keep K for 24 hrs after his fever it gone to ensure his recovery. His fever is constant (between 99.5 and 101) at this point. Pray that we would glorify God in our hearts and actions. We had some challenges with this today as we got some conflicting information from different doctors at a couple of points today. We know they are doing their best and we don’t want to sin against those trying to help our son in our hearts or actions.
I am writing and posting this for Molly. She is still at the hospital and has greatly appreciated all of those who have e-mailed her as she has been able to check e-mail.
