David here passing a message on for Molly
– K is coming home today. Yesterday passed without a fever and his abscess is not regrowing and is getting smaller.
– K does have MRSA, however it is a community acquired strain (not a tougher hospital acquired strain) and is very treatable with antibiotics. It is localized and not in his bloodstream, so he is not infectious except if someone touches the wound site or fluids draining from the wound. Precautions still need to be taken in dressing the wound and keeping it dressed, but if you have MRSA this is really the best possible way to have it.
– As it is community acquired that means he actually did get it out somewhere in the community. As much as 1-2 months ago even. As it is not in his bloodstream the doctor told us it must have been introduced through a scratch, abrasion or bug bite on his back. It can start with something that small.
– K will be taking it easy for a several days. That might be a challenge for him after laying around so much. The antibiotics he is already on would take care of Strep as well, so he is not in danger of getting sicker by coming home to his 3 brothers with Strep.
Molly was encouraged by this verse today
God is our refuge and strength,an ever-present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear, though the earth give way and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea,
though its waters roar and foam and the mountains quake with their surging. Selah There is a river whose streams make glad the city of God, the holy place where the Most High dwells. Psalm 46 1-4
